According to Joe Biden, the killing of Osama bin Laden was the “most audacious” plan of the past 500 years.
From the Politico article:
“You can go back 500 years. You cannot find a more audacious plan. Never knowing for certain. We never had more than a 48 percent probability that he was there,” Biden said at a fundraiser in Morris Township, N.J.
Think back over the history of the past 500 years, at some of the audacious plans of historical significance. I think we can find some more audacious plans just in American history:
- The Declaration of Independence
- Washington crossing the Delaware
- The Constitutional Convention
- The Emancipation Proclamation
- The Normandy invasion in WWII
- The moon landing
- The ending of the Cold War and the destruction of the Berlin Wall
And even, I daresay, the invasion of Iraq and the deposing of Saddam Hussein was a more “audacious” prospect than a single raid to take out Bin Laden.
Don’t get me wrong – killing Bin Laden is, by far, the hallmark achievement in Mr. Obama’s presidency. But if Joe Biden truly believes that it was the greatest event of the past 500 years, the perhaps it’s time for our Vice President to take some history classes.
