It’s amazing what are treated like real issues in this primary campaign:
- The media starts a rumor about Ben Carson dropping out; multiple campaigns (Cruz and Rubio) pick up on it. So did Cruz cheat to win in Iowa? No, but he came in 1st, so all fingers point at him.
- Ted Cruz sent out a mailer to Iowa voters (OMG! Not a mailer!). Not the best of campaign tactics, but nothing that hasn’t been done before. All reports & blame games leave out the fact that Rubio did the same thing at the same time.
- Ted Cruz is a mean, lying Canadian infiltrator intent on taking our nation over for Canada…or something. Anyway, Donald Trump said it, so it must be true.
- While serving in the Senate, Ted Cruz didn’t get along with the entrenched career politicians who do the bidding of their lobbyist cronies. This doesn’t mean he’s principled, it just means he’s a mean person who can’t get along well with others.
I get it. Cruz came out at #1 in Iowa, which puts the target on him. But in this primary field, Cruz is one of a few true stalwart conservatives who have been fighting for the Constitution for years, in the face of overwhelming odds and undeserved insults & criticism.
Donald Trump is making lying about Cruz a daily practice, and many of his more virulent supporters take his every word as Gospel, and spreading all kinds of lies and conspiracy theories around social media.
Frankly, the fact that Cruz has responded with class and dignity makes me respect him all the more; I can’t think of many people – especially in the political sphere – who wouldn’t be taking at least a few pot shots, especially given what Cruz is facing. While Trump takes the low road, Cruz responds with class. He is the right man in the right place at the right time.
I only hope and pray that the people of America will continue to see through the lies thrown against him, and make the right choice.
